Daydreaming with Tetsubinatu

This is supposed to run January 1-15 but what the heck - I'll have a go now.

Day1: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. 1. Memories of a Faun (Narnia, G-rated, Lucy/Tumnus, 1297 words)
Fauns don't fall in love. Except maybe one. I like it because it was one of my early pieces that I really felt worked.

2. Glory Hole (Merlin, explicit, major pairing Arthur/Merlin, 1649 words)
As I wrote in my notes: I don't even know what happened. One moment I'm thinking about serious issues for S3 and the next I've written Merlin/Arthur with a glory hole. I like it because it wrote itself.

3. One Soul (Harry Potter, gen, 452 words)
This idea caught hold of me and I needed to write it. It is also a reaction to Fred's death in Deathly Hallows. I wish more people saw it.

4. Marzipan series (UNFINISHED Merlin, very mild, Merlin/Arthur, 8797 words)
I wish I'd finished this. It was 10 advent ficlets of a plotted 24, but I loved the S1 world these characters lived in, before Morgana went dark. Maybe one day I'll find it again.

When I was six I lived in Tokyo and attended Nishimachi International School. My best friend was Timothy North, who would play games where I didn't have to be the nurse rather than the racing car driver, just because I was a girl. And one day he let me read a book - the first book in an enticingly long set of red clothbound volumes. It was called The Wizard of Oz.

Timothy and I were the only Australians in our class. We learned to spell 'colour' while most of the other children learned 'color' - but in Timothy's case it was all wasted effort because his mother became engaged to an American and, long before I was finished with those books, he told me that they were moving to America.

Taking pity on me, his mother let me take the last few volumes home to try and get to the end before they had to be packed. I devoted every moment I could to them, incidentally becoming the first speed-reader in my class, and I finished them in time. I owe a great deal of thanks to the former Mrs North! I hope she and Timothy found a happy home in America.

I still think the Oz books are magic!
